Part of Our World

This song is meant to critique the bluefin tuna overfishing crisis while simultaneously evoking a sense of nostalgia for the carefree days of childhood heavily influenced by Disney. By using a popular song from Disney’s famed underwater free spirit, hopefully this will help to make the controversy more digestible for children and adults alike.

Part of Our World

Maybe we’re right

Maybe there really is something wrong

I just can’t believe something so beautiful could be born just to get eaten

Look at these fish

Aren’t they neat?

Wouldn’t you think they’re lives are complete?

Wouldn’t you think they’re the ones

The ones who have everything?

Look at this food

Taste is untold

How much sashimi can one stomach hold?

Looking around you would think

Sure, we have everything

I’ve got fishnets and fishermen aplenty

I’ve got mallets and knives galore

You want tuna?

I’ve got plenty

You should care!

It’s a big deal!

Don’t take more!

I wanna be where the fishies are

I wanna see, wanna see’em growin’

Swimming around hunting, what do you call ‘em?

Oh, herring!

Countercurrent exchange regulates body temperature

We are the ones who can help them, save them

Stop them from being sold at, what are those called?

Markets!

Down where they hunt, down where they swim

Down where they breathe in oxygen

Mating so free, wish that I could

Save their whole world

What would I give to have comprehensive laws?

What would I pay to ban all the tuna rolls?

Bet’cha researchers they understand

Bet they don’t reprimand their workers

Strong young women, annoyed smart women

Ready to stand

And ready to tell the people what they know

Hear some questions and give some answers

What’s a congress and why does it, what’s the word?

Suck?

When will we act?

Wouldn’t I love, love to ban sashimi and grilled tuna

Into the sea

Wish that I could

Save their whole world
